How skill growth works
Community data from the live game gives this formula for each session:
gain = rate x hours, divided by (1 + 0.6 x your level), then times trait and mood bonuses
- Skills stop at level 10, but promotions only ever ask for level 7.
- The promotion gates are levels 1, 3, 5 and 7.
- 39 of the 88 actions happen at home. They cost nothing and need no travel.
- Higher levels grow more slowly: at level 5 the divisor is 4, so each session gives about a quarter of what it gave at level 0.

Frequently asked questions

Promotions need level 1, 3, 5 and 7 of your career’s skill. Level 7 is the highest you need. Levels 8 to 10 are for achievements.
Which skills have no career?
Dance, Comedy and Photography. They have their own actions and achievements but no pay ladder.
